OPERATION FORESTER

We are looking for an Operations Forester in our TIMMINS location.

Reporting to the Timmins Woodland Manager, duties will include supervision of a variety of forestry activities include silviculture operations, harvest operations, truck haul and a limited amount of forest operations planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the planning, supervision, implementation and monitoring of silviculture activities on both the Pineland and Spanish Forests • Conduct annual field surveys required to support silvicultural effectiveness monitoring and prescription development. • Document results of all annual silvicultural treatments and field surveys in corporate GIS databases/layers. • Assist the Timmins Woodlands Operations Group with daily supervision and/or field monitoring of forest operations including harvesting, road construction, water crossing installation, log quality, bridge and gravel pit inspections. • Monitor silviculture and harvest contractor performance against contract specifications, approved Forest Management Plans, Annual Work Schedules, Forest Certification and EMS requirements, Corporate Policies , Legal Obligations and Health and Safety. • All other duties as assigned to support the implementation of forest management activities for the Timmins Woodlands.

SKILLS PROFILE:

• Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, be physically fit, and able to produce positive results with clients and contractors • Have leadership skills, be motivated to produce high-quality deliverable products, and be flexible and adaptable to a variety of work environments

REQUIREMENTS:

• Recognized University Degree or College Diploma in forestry, forest engineering, forest technician or equivalent • Have acquired a minimum of 1-3 years of experience related to the aspects of this role. • Experience in the implementation of Silviculture programs would be considered an asset. • Be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office, ArcView GIS (or equivalent), GPS technology • Required to work outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain conditions • Driver’s License in good standing • valid Forest Operations Compliance Certificate or ability to attain • Possess, or be eligible to obtain Ontario Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation
